Yes, 613 wigs can shed more than darker hair wigs, and the reason lies mostly in the processing. Hair used to create 613 wigs undergoes heavy bleaching to achieve that bright platinum blonde shade. This intense chemical process strips the hair of its natural melanin and protective cuticle layer, this could damage the strands and increase their vulnerability to shedding, breakage, and dryness compared to unprocessed or darker-colored wigs.

In contrast, darker wigs often retain more of their natural strength because they undergo less chemical treatment or are simply dyed instead of bleached. That means the integrity of the hair remains more intact, helping reduce shedding and extending the lifespan of the unit.

That said, high-quality 613 wigs made from 100% Remy or virgin human hair can still be long-lasting and beautiful with proper care. The key is to maintain them with extra hydration and gentle handling. Use shampoos and conditioners without sulfate, minimize heat styling, and apply leave-in conditioners or lightweight oils to keep the strands nourished. Detangle with care using a comb or fingers, especially when the hair is damp.

Shedding can also be reduced by sealing the wefts with a weft sealant and avoiding excessive brushing. If your 613 wig is sewn, glued, or clipped in too tightly, tension on the wefts can also increase shedding. Proper installation and maintenance play a big role in keeping your wig looking full and gorgeous, no matter the shade.
