Styling and maintaining wet and wavy hair, especially for extensions or wigs, is all about enhancing the natural wave pattern and combating frizz. My go-to approach begins in the shower: after washing, I gently detangle with a wide-tooth comb while the conditioner is still in my hair. This prevents breakage and helps the waves clump together.
Once rinsed, I apply a generous amount of leave-in conditioner, focusing on the ends, then a curl-defining cream or mousse. The key is to scrunch the product into the hair from ends to roots to encourage the waves. I try to avoid rubbing with a towel, opting instead to gently blot excess water.
For drying, air drying is ideal for preserving the wave pattern and minimizing frizz. If I'm in a rush, I'll try a diffuser on a low heating and low-speed setting. Throughout the day, I try to minimize touching the wet and wavy hair. At night, I either do a few large braids or pineapple (gathering hair loosely on top of the head) and sleep on a silk pillowcase. This drastically reduces tangling and prevents the waves from getting crushed or frizzing overnight. In between washes, a light mist of water and a bit more leave-in or curl refresher can revive the waves.
