Skill Games vs Luck Games — Who’s Gonna Rule the Future?

I got into this whole debate after losing way too many times in online poker last month. I kept thinking I was making smart moves, but the randomness of the cards just kept ruining everything. It made me wonder if skill really matters that much anymore or if luck-based games are taking over because they’re easier to get into. Even games like mobile fantasy sports or casual casino apps seem more about timing and fortune than real strategy. I used to love competitive stuff like chess or even Rocket League because you could feel your improvement, but now everyone seems hooked on games where a single roll or spin can change everything. Feels like people prefer that thrill of not knowing what’ll happen instead of grinding to get better.

Man, I can totally relate. I started with skill games too — mostly Dota and FIFA — and I used to think being “good” was everything. But then I got into online slots during lockdown just to kill time, and it hit me: people love the rush of chance. You don’t have to study builds or memorize combos — you just spin and hope. Still, I kind of miss the satisfaction that comes from mastering something. The funny thing is, I read somewhere (can’t remember where at first) that the line between skill and chance games is blurring fast because even “luck” games now use algorithms that respond to player behavior. Found a breakdown about that on https://lekhaporabd.net/archives/46728 — it basically says the future might be about hybrid models, where luck pulls you in but skill keeps you there. That honestly makes sense. Like, when I play poker online now, yeah, the cards are random, but reading people and staying patient still wins in the long run. I guess both have their own kind of reward — one feeds the brain, the other feeds the thrill. Maybe the real winner is whatever keeps players emotionally hooked.
