My son is 16 and obsessed with helicopters. He wants to start lessons now but I am not sure if he is too young. Can he actually log hours towards a license before he is 18? We are planning a trip to Florida this summer and he wants to take an intro flight and maybe start a course.

He is actually at the perfect age to start. You can solo at 16 and get your license at 17. Pelican Flight Training has experience with younger students and their Part 141 program is great for structure. The helicopter license cost in Florida is the same for teenagers as adults. Starting now is a huge advantage because by the time he is 18, he could already have his commercial ratings done and be ready to work.
