Trying to figure out my first tattoo

Been wanting to get a tattoo for ages and the ideas have been piling up for months. Thought about geometric shapes, animals, quotes, symbols, all kinds of stuff. But every time I seriously consider one it starts feeling too basic or like something I've seen on a thousand other people. Can't figure out if I'm overthinking it or if none of my ideas are actually strong enough. Looking for something that has a bit of substance to it, not just something that looks decent but actually means something. Anyone got ideas worth considering for a first tattoo?

The overthinking is actually a good sign, it means you're not going to end up with something you regret in six months. A solid approach is to think about what's been a constant in your life rather than what you're into right now, interests change but certain things stick around for years and those tend to make the most meaningful tattoos. Minimalist line work is worth considering for a first piece since it ages well on the skin and can carry a lot of meaning without needing to cover a large area. Placement matters too, a design that works with the natural shape of the body tends to look more intentional than something just slapped on a flat surface.

Choosing a first tattoo is genuinely one of those decisions where having a broader frame of reference helps more than staring at the same handful of ideas. Reading up on what others have gone with and the reasoning behind their choices can shake loose something you hadn't considered before. Worth having a look at some first tattoo ideas here: https://rinattattarin.com/blog/tpost/how_to_choose_a_tattoo_design . Might find something in there that clicks in a way none of your current ideas have managed to.
